Caring for your new tint

Thanks for trusting us with your vehicle. New film needs a few days to settle in. Here’s everything you need to know, and it only takes a minute to read.

  1. Days 1–5
Windows up. Rear defroster off. Let the edges seal.
  2. Day 5
Roll your windows down and use the defroster as normal.
  3. Weeks 3–4
The film finishes drying and curing. Any last haze clears up.
Step 1

The first 5 days

The film is installed wet, and it needs time to dry and grip the glass.

  • Keep your windows up for 5 days. Rolling them down too soon can catch the edge of the film before it has sealed and peel it back.
  • Leave the rear defroster off for 5 days, too. After that it’s fine to use whenever you need it.
  • Count from the day you picked it up. If we finished on a Monday, you’re clear on Saturday.

Window went down by accident? Don’t worry. Roll it back up and text us a photo. We’ll tell you if anything needs a look.

Day 5

You can roll your windows down

The edges have sealed, so your windows are good to use like normal. Enjoy the cooler, darker ride.

  • Windows up and down as much as you like
  • Rear defroster is good to go
  • Keep cleaning with a soft cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner
Totally normal

Haze and water pockets

A little cloudiness or a few small water pockets right after install is normal. It’s leftover water from the install, and it goes away as the film dries.

  • Most of it clears in the first few days.
  • The film keeps drying and curing for 3–4 weeks, so a few small spots can hang around longer. That’s fine.
  • Cold weather slows it down. In winter it can take toward the end of that window. Parking in the sun or a warm garage helps.
  • Leave them alone. Don’t press or push on the bubbles. They work themselves out.

Keep it clear

Cleaning your tinted windows

  • Use a soft microfiber cloth and an ammonia-free glass cleaner. Most auto glass cleaners say “tint safe” on the label.
  • No ammonia. Many household glass cleaners have it, and it breaks the film down over time.
  • No razor blades, scrapers or abrasive pads on the inside of the glass. That’s the side the film is on, and they will scratch or cut it.
  • The outside of the glass has no film, so wash it like you always do.

What we recommend: Sprayway foaming glass cleaner. It’s tint safe, and it does a fantastic job without leaving streaks. You can find it at Walmart or Amazon. Wipe it off with a waffle weave microfiber glass towel, like this one from The Rag Company.

Day to day

Everyday care

Tint is tough, but a few habits keep it looking new for the life of the vehicle.

  • Watch seatbelt buckles. Let the belt retract slowly so the metal buckle doesn’t snap against the window.
  • Mind rings and keys when you rest a hand on the glass or reach across a window.
  • No suction cups or stickers on tinted glass. Mount phone holders, toll tags and parking passes on untinted glass or the dash instead.
  • Rear defroster: wait 5 days, then use it normally. Our films won’t interfere with it.
