Headlight restoration in Fort Collins, Colorado
Out toward Horsetooth there is no ambient light to hide a yellowed lens. Clear, sealed lenses put your beam back on the road — most vehicles same day.
Local, and it matters
Why headlights fail fast in Fort Collins
Plenty of our regulars are Fort Collins drivers — CSU students, Harmony Rd commuters, and Old Town locals who would rather have the work done right than done nearby.
Fort Collins has a lot of well-maintained older vehicles — the kind where everything works fine except the headlights have gone amber. The roads out toward Horsetooth and the reservoir have no street lighting, and that is where the loss shows up: you are not getting less light exactly, you are getting it spread everywhere except where you are looking.
Headlight lenses are polycarbonate with a thin factory UV coating on top. At Front Range altitude that coating takes far more UV than it would at sea level, and once it breaks down the plastic underneath oxidizes — yellow, cloudy, hazy. Park outside around CSU, Horsetooth Reservoir, Old Town Square and the Harmony Rd retail corridor for a few Colorado summers and you will see it.
It is not only cosmetic. Oxidized lenses scatter light instead of projecting it, and can cut usable output dramatically — which you feel on dark stretches of Harmony Rd, College Ave, Timberline Rd and I-25.
We restore headlights for drivers across Old Town, Midtown, Harmony, Timberline, Fossil Creek, Campus West and the Front Range Village area and ZIP codes 80521–80528.
Why the DIY kits disappoint
Toothpaste and drugstore kits abrade the surface and leave it unprotected. The lens looks better for two weeks, then oxidizes faster than before — because the last of the factory UV layer is now gone.
The step that actually matters is the one those kits skip: a real sealant and UV coat after polishing. That is what makes a restoration last through Fort Collins summers instead of through one car wash.
Bring us a lens someone already tried a kit on — we can almost always still save it.
A fraction of the cost of new lenses
Replacement headlight assemblies on a modern vehicle can run many hundreds of dollars each. Restoration brings back the same clarity for a small share of that — quoted before we start.

Headlight Restoration FAQ
How much does headlight restoration cost in Fort Collins?
It depends on your vehicle and how far the oxidation has progressed, so we quote on the actual lenses — but it is always a small fraction of new headlight assemblies. Send a photo or stop by the Windsor shop, about 20 minutes from Fort Collins.
How long does headlight restoration last?
With a proper seal and UV coat, far longer than a buff-and-hope kit. Parking in shade when you can and keeping the lenses clean stretches it further. In high-UV Larimer County conditions, sealing is what makes the difference.
Will restoration help on unlit roads out toward Horsetooth?
That is where you notice it most. In town there is enough ambient light to mask a hazed lens, but on an unlit road you are relying entirely on your own beam. Oxidation scatters that light sideways instead of down the road, so you lose distance exactly where you need it.
Is restoration cheaper than replacing my headlights?
Almost always, and it is not close. Replacement assemblies on modern vehicles carry projector optics, LED modules, and sometimes control units. Restoring an intact lens costs a fraction of that.
Will it actually make my headlights brighter?
Yes. Clearing the oxidized layer lets light project instead of scatter. Most Fort Collins customers notice it the first night they drive home, particularly on unlit county roads.
Can all headlights be restored?
Most factory polycarbonate lenses restore beautifully. Lenses that are cracked, moisture-filled, or failing internally need replacement — we assess honestly before quoting.
How long does it take?
Most vehicles are done the same day. Drop off in the morning and pick up clear.
Do you do headlight restoration for fleets?
Yes. Dealers and Larimer County fleets get volume pricing — hazed headlights across a lot of work trucks are a fast, cheap win.
